Asus B43E Review

Asus B43E is the newest member of AsusPro series, a series for business laptop users. It is powered by Core i3 2350M processor that is accompanied by Intel HD 3000 graphics. Specs include 14 inch screen with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution that is good enough for business users. What makes this Asus laptop so unique is the fact that you can make B43E a full fledge workstation by adding the 150 Euros dock (Asus likes to call it “Power Station”). Folks at notebookcheck Germany have done a review of it and they are pleased with it.

Here is the summary of their review:
1) The B43E is not trying to be an ultrabook by any means. IT is extremely bulky, having a height of 35 mm. This, however, allows it to pack almost any port computer industry has ever made (1 Express Card 34mm, 2 USB 2.0, 1 USB 3.0, 1 VGA , 1 HDMI , 1 DisplayPort, V.92 MDC Fax / Modem AC-Link Version 2.1 Modem, 1 Kensington Lock, 1 eSata , 1 Docking Station Port, Audio Connections : headphone, microphone, Card Reader: SD, MMC, MS, MS Pro, xD, 1 SmartCard, 1 Fingerprint Reader, Intel vPro, TPM (Infineon)). 2) There is no SIM card slot for high speed data modem. You instead get the 56K modem from the nineties which will give you emergency access to Internet.

3) Hard drive is shock resistant and the whole unit comes with 24 month warranty with pick and drop service.

4) Docking station adds a lot of ports:
10/100/1000 RJ-45 LAN
EPP / ECP Parallel port / D-sub 25-pin
4x USB 2.0 ports
VGA port / D-sub 15-pin
DVI -D port
COM Port
Kensington Lock
2 Audio Jacks: Mic-in, SPDIF and Headphone-out

4) The keys on the keyboard are same as Asus N53J and N55SF that we reviewed last year. They are not chiclet type and not so comfortable to use. They are soft and noiseless. The small right shift key can take some time in getting used to though. Touchpad’s surface is smooth. It feels and works nicely with the gestures and scrolling, but is not as precise as the one in Asus UX32VD zenbook.

5) Screen has 16:9 ratio and is slightly better than other business notebooks by Asus. But it is at par with the matte display of Lenovo T430, which means while blacks are not very black, they are good enough for business users.

6) Overall performance is not ground breaking but is decent for businessmen. For storage, you get the traditional, mechanical HDD that is not supplemented by SSD for caching or for storing data.
