With so many cheap netbooks on the market, Sony is demonstrating its confidence in a higher price range – much higher. The updated Z series is notable for its fast dual core Intel i7 processor, AMD Radeon HD 6650M graphics, and extreme lightweight portability, weighing in at only 2.7 pounds (1.2 kg). It also comes with 256GB SSD standard, as well at 8GB of RAM. The screen is 13.1 inch LED and very high res at 1,600 x 900 or 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. This complements the AMD graphics card, which carries it’s own 1GB or RAM.
That said, the Z series still carries a high price tag. Pricing has not been announced for the US, but in the UK the machine will cost no less than $2300. However, that may not be too much for those consumers who are interested in extreme lightweight portability combined with high performance. You can read its review here (slate review).
Here is how it fares with other popular processors in the same category. Clearly, performance-wise, it blows other 13 inch notebooks out of water, including the just released Samsung 900X1B.
