AllWinner is all set to release A23 dual core processor based on ARM Cortex A7 chip. Company is calling A23 the most efficient dual core processor till date. While that is probably a matter up for debate, but we love the fact that the CPU manufacture promises low power consumption, while not degrading performance in a big way. Graphics are handled by ARM Mali 400 MP2, which has full support for OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics and 1080p HD video encoding (and of course, decoding).
That said, with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800, Allwinner is going to be behind the curve. Android is set to expand into many more devices. As screens get bigger 1280 x 800 is not going to cut it and Qualcomm, Samsung, Nvidia (and maybe Mediatek) will probably have “value” chips to compete with Allwinners best chip. While this A23 processor is not going to surpass Apple A7 or Samsung Exynos Octa Core CPU in any way, it will deliver excellent performance nonetheless – just enough to run Android operating system smoothly.
The company is also panning AllWinner A80 processor. This CPU will compete with likes of Samsung Exynos 5 Octa. A80, just Exynos, will feature Cortex A15 and A7 cores and applications will be able to use all 8 cores at once, if required. The CPU manufacture is planning to deliver A23 and A80 in Q1 2014.
